Her father gave her in marriage (c800) at Aachen to Egbert the Great of Wessex whilst he was living at the Frankish court. Her Anglo-Saxon subjects rendered her name as ‘Raedburh’ which was Latinized by later writers as ‘Redburga.' Queen Redburga was living (828) when Egbert issued his edict forbidding the Welsh to cross Offa’s dyke into England
