Bertha of Neustria (3)
Carolingian princess
Born (c823) – Died (after 877)

Father – Emperor Lothair I
Mother – Ermengarde of Tours

Bertha remained unmarried and became a nun
She was appointed as Abbess of Avenay near Paris (before 847)
She also served as Abbess of Faremoutier, Brie (852)

NOTE :
Sources which make Bertha the illegitimate child of Lothair and his concubine Doda are incorrect.
According to ancient sources Lothair only took a concubine after the death of the Empress Ermengarde (March, 851) when Bertha was already alive and an abbess. Therefore she must have been a legitimate daughter.
