Bertha of Neustria (1)
Carolingian princess
Born (779) – Died (after Jan 14, 823)

Father – Charles I the Great (Charlemagne)
Mother – Hildegarde of Vinzgau

Baptised as Bertrada but called by the diminutive Bertha in order to distinguish her from her grandmother and namesake Bertrada of Laon. Her father refused to allow a marriage between Bertha and Egbert of Mercia, son and heir of Offa II.

Bertha never married but had a liaison with Angilbert of Saalgau which was accepted by her father and left issue. She was banished from court by her brother Louis (814) and forced to retire to a convent.
