Adaltrude became the second wife (c807) of Eardwulf of Northumbria
The Annales Lindesfarnenses recorded that Eardwulf’s second wife was filiam regis Karoli
Adaltrude in the only daughter of the Emperor of the right age to fit this description
There were no children of this marriage and Adaltrude returned to her father’s court at Aachen after Eardwulf’s death (810). With the death of Emperor Charlemagne Adaltrude was forced to retire to a nunnery by her half-brother the Emperor Louis I
