Also called Hruodald he was Count of Ingelheim, Alzey and Bingen

Rodoald (Hruodald) is almost certainly identical with the ‘Roland’ of popular legend
Usually referred to as Charlemagne’s nephew he was actually his nephew by marriage
Rodoald was married (c785) to Bertha of Hannonia (link) (usually referred to as St Bertha of Bingen)
His widow survived Rodoald for more than forty years
