A beautiful, cultured and well educated woman Liutperga’s husband always remained under her influence. After Charlemagne deposed her parents and immured them within monasteries (774) Liutperga constantly urged her husband to rebel. This desire for revenge led to the deposition of the Bavarian royal house and the annexation of Bavaria by the Franks (788). Liutperga, her husband, and four children were all forced to take religious vows and retire to monasteries for the rest of their lives.
